Creator code quality check
Use this local checklist to review your plan. Checking an item does not change your Shopify store or Afivio account.

Make the customer offer unambiguous
Write the offer in a sentence before creating the code: what the shopper receives, which products qualify, and when it can be used. Then configure the relevant conditions in your Shopify discount setup and verify them with a representative basket. The partner’s brief and landing page should describe the same offer so shoppers do not encounter a surprise at checkout.
Use a naming convention that people can read and your team can maintain. Record which partner owns the code, which campaign it belongs to, and who can authorize changes. Avoid reusing a retired code for another person without considering old content still in circulation. A clear ownership history makes later questions about orders and expired offers easier to resolve.
Treat discount rules and commission rules as separate checks
A discount applying successfully does not establish that affiliate commission has been assigned. Your affiliate integration must recognize the code in the intended way. Test a purchase that uses the code without an earlier partner click, then inspect the partner and commission records. If your setup requires additional configuration for code attribution, complete it before advertising the offer.
Next, test the overlap between a partner link and a different creator code according to your system’s supported workflow. Document the result and explain the governing rule in program terms. Also calculate the margin effect of the discount plus commission on the same order. Keeping those costs in separate systems does not make either cost disappear from the merchant’s contribution.
Monitor code use and manage changes carefully
A code may appear in a shared group, a forwarded newsletter, or a coupon listing outside the original creator’s content. Review sudden changes in usage with context before deciding what happened. Check the published placements, basket patterns, and your allowed promotion methods. Unusual activity is a reason to investigate, not enough evidence on its own to accuse a partner of misconduct.
When a code expires or an offer changes, tell the partner what to update and when. Decide whether the landing page can explain the new conditions for customers arriving from older content. Recheck affected discount combinations and commission examples after the change. A small code register with owner, eligibility, status, and change date is often enough to prevent avoidable confusion.
Worked example · illustrative scenario
Example: a code that works but loses margin
A fictional skincare-accessory store tests a creator code during a site promotion. The configured discount combination creates a larger reduction than the owner expected, while affiliate commission still applies to the eligible amount. The owner revises the intended combination rules and retests before the creator announces the offer.
Frequently asked questions
Is an ordinary Shopify discount code automatically an affiliate code?
Do not assume it is. A discount changes the customer price; affiliate attribution depends on recognition and configuration in your affiliate setup. Test both outcomes.
Should every creator receive a discount code?
Only when a code fits the customer experience and the economics. Some campaigns can use tracked links without a customer discount. Match the incentive to a clear purpose.
What should happen when a code leaks onto a coupon site?
Review your permitted promotion methods and the evidence. Clarify the situation with the partner, document any decision, and apply the program’s stated rules consistently.
